Post APPS
Anyone know a good fairly easy to use app creating program for androids or iphones?

I'm not picky as to the OS the app ends up on.

I don't know that there are any "easy programs" for creating apps--they are written by software engineers using Objective-C (for iPhone) or Java (for android).

If you're familiar with building websites, you can look at tools like phonegap that let you build mobile apps using HTML and Javascript.

From what I've been reading, Dalvik is the "engine" that apps are run on androids not Java.. Apparently they are similar but
Java has to be ported to Dalvik???

I dunno, I never heard of Dalvik before...but:

Quote:
While most Android applications are written in Java, there is no Java Virtual Machine in the platform and Java byte code is not executed. Java classes are compiled into Dalvik executables and run on the Dalvik virtual machine. Dalvik is a specialized virtual machine designed specifically for Android and optimized for battery-powered mobile devices with limited memory and CPU. J2ME support can be provided via third-party-applications.

Soooooo.. Does that mean I can just make an app in Java?

Was going to recommend app inventor (and send you my info), but it was created by the engineering team. So it's going to be a bit "fugly".

Check out eclipse it is a very cool free app that is used at OSU IT college. It uses java and you download the addon packages directly from major phone companies IE: Blackberry/any andriod phone and whatnot. It also allows you to test the app you build in a seperate window with a software replicated phone. So like for me I can download all the different blackberry phones and test it on all of them.

Blackberry's and most Android phones I've seen use Java for programs. Never heard of dalvik
