Post Ordering new computer...
So, I am lagging so badly in scenarios and just about everywhere...

With fastest framerate set, and everything turned down including no spell effects.

The only positive thing out of it, is - I lagged so badly twice last that I clipped into the middle keep in deathball, and was able to AOE the piss out of the opposing team without them even seeing me. Of course... I'll get banned if they notice a level 17 doing over 52k dmg in a scenario of that caliber.

I have had the same computer since the beginnings of DAoC. It has treated me well, and is still going strong.

I am going to be upgrading motherboard, processor, ram and of course video card.

upgrading to what? Any details yet? Choice on ATI or Nvidia (Crossfire or SLI)? Intel or AMD? Core2 Duo or Quad? Possible harddrive upgrade for better read write performance?

So I currently run the game at 1920x1200 at "highest quality" settings with solid framerate on the system that I built recently:

Quote:
Asus MicroATX Mobo allowing for up to 4gb of RAM, 1333/1066mhz FSB, and 1 PCI-E 2.0 x16 slot and on-board 7.1 audio
Intel Core 2 Duo E7200 (2.53ghz)
2gb Corsair RAM
XFX GeForce 8800GS 384mb
160GB Seagate 16mb buffer SATA HDD
SATA DVD Drive
Cooler master case + 485watt power supply

All told, I was able to put this together for $450 including taxes, shipping, and a couple of extra case fans that I picked up.

There are definitely more powerful systems you could put together--but I worked for 3 days to find everything I could that provided the most "bang for the buck."

BE SURE to get a motherboard with PCI-E 2.0 x16 (the 2.0 part is important) and a card that is the same. PCI-E x16 is starting to go the way of AGP.

I just built this and am loving every bit of it. (prices attaches so you can see what you can expect as of 1 month ago)*all prices are in CDN $.

Processor: 65nm Intel Core2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz 1066MFSB 8M Cache (currently OC at 3.42GHz) (199.99)

CPU Cooler: OCZ Vendetta (34.99)

Memory: Buffalo DDR2-800MHz PC2-6400 2GB x 2 (4GB) (99.99) (lifetime warranty in store replacement)

Motherboard: Asus Intel P35 P5K-E Wifi-AP Edition (159.99)

HDD: 2 x SATA2 Seagate ST3250310AS 250G 7200rpm 8M Cache 500Gb Raid 0 total (54.99x2)

Graphics: Asus HD 4850 512MB DDR3 PCI-E 2.0 (209.99)

PSU: OCZ Stealth 500W (54.99)

OS: Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit SP1

Case: Antec 900 (109.99)

This thing is a beast, I have no problems with crysis at 1920x1200 Resolution which is how I play WAR with all settings maxed out and forced AA 8x

will post details when I am on my desktop. I am napping on the couch right now with Briton. It is a pretty solid system. Still have not decided on the video card though.

at futureshop a few minutes ago (bbuy equivalent in canada) they are selling the 9800 GT + for 199.99 definately <- LOOK AT ME THE ASSHOLE WHO CAN'T SPELL! not a bad deal as this is the redesigned version to compete with the 4850 models from ATI.

Lol I wish i could play on my Tv, but i find MMO's overwhelming on a 46" LCD, so I stick to 24" Monitor.

You can get a 9800 gt for just over $100 from Newegg.. I got the EVGA dual slot one... The dual slot is definitely the way to go as it pushes all the heat from the gpu right out of the case..

I would probably go with intel chipset E7200 or E8300 Core 2 Duo processor (great for Gaming and cheap) plus the Phenom processors have had alot of issues with their performance if you really want quad really badly get the Q6600 intel chip179.99 new and Highly overclockable I've got mine running stable at 3.4Ghz stock is 2.4Ghz. Stay away from all things On board video your gonna chug worse than a 2$ **** at the very least get a dedicated video card to go along with your integrated video.

My 2 cents. Take it or leave it :P

I am going to stick with AMD...

... and I would NEVER rely on a on-board video card for gaming. I just haven't decided on what I'm going to get.

Same prejudice that kept people from switching from Intel to AMD when they were making the better processors.

He didn't say Intel sucks, He said he's sticking with AMD.. That's not prejudice.. That's choice..

And the Phenoms are fine now.. Thier first runs were shit that is why they made the 3 cores.. Basically 1 core was crapping out... Now they're fine. Personally I went with the duo core just for the cheapness..

I'd go with 4 gig Var.. I got 4 gig for 75 dollars on newegg and it was namebrand.. Cant think of it off the top of my head but i just woke up..

I bought two gig, because I was still undecided as to what OS I was going to go with.

I don't understand this.. What difference does that make?

The only thing I can think of about OSes and memory is that you need alot for Vista and XP doesn't recognize above 3.25 gig under certain circumstances but thats fixable..

Just because they finally got them to work doesn't mean that they are performing at the same level as to Core 2's. Just happens Intels got the better processor at this moment. and very affordable. When AMD creates a superior processor for equivalent value then my next computer will be AMD :p

As for Memory, 2 gigz 4 gigz who cares, you really just need 2, if you need more memory is so cheap you can't loose. just buy a 2gig stick off the bat to avoid having to replace multiple 1gb sticks later :P

I'm in love.

New system is grand, and I'm sure I'm going to be set for any expansions they put out as well.

Ended up getting a nvidia 9800 GTX... and got a raptor drive too... the 10,000 rpms really does make a difference on load screens, and when characters, npcs, etc are populating.
