Post Quad core CPU's
SO my gaming computer up and crapped out on me last week, not fore sure if it is the CPU or the MB at this point, but its a good time to hit the wife up for new parts!. So my question is should I go with a quad core, or a high end dual core? Any suggestions would be great. HOPEFULLY it is just my CPU that is toast, since I have a good MB, and it will support the quad cores..

AMD or Intel?

IF it's AMD I would be wary as they had a lot of trouble with their quads but are supposed to have ironed out the kinks.. You need to research this heavily if you plan on going quad with AMD. That doesn't mean it's not a good idea though.

If it's an Intel board I'd say go for it. Their quads are smoking currently.

Varadin got a smoking deal on a AMD Quad and Mobo from newegg.

I have hardly ever seen a CPU actually GO OUT. It's the mobo 99% of the time (after you have decided HDD/GFX card/RAM are not part of the problem).

Another alternative might be to pick out a new processor and mobo package that might work with what you already have rather than risking buying a CPU when you aren't really sure that is the problem.

I agree with Enthwar on this one...
I was wondering why he mentioned a CPU going out until I re-read your original post.

If it's the CPU alone - I'll be one surprised mofo. I've only seen that once in ... oh I'll say 10 years.

WEll I Pray it is the CPU, as it is under warranty.. MOBO is another story lol. I was over clocking it somewhat so it is a possibility at least. Maybe if I am lucky they will damage it in shipping, since it is insured for $600  Would make a merry Christmas for me

The order I have seen:

HD
Power supply
MB
Video Card
Ram
FD
Cables
Other cards
CPU
